About Fredrick Townsend:

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Fredrick Townsend graduated from Baton Rouge Magnet High, a visual and performing arts school, before coming to Columbia in 2000 on a track scholarship. He earned his BA in Art Studio in 2004 and began painting two years later. Though best known for his magnolia paintings, Townsend has recently returned to a more surreal style—one that blends personal symbolism with striking imagery. His goal: to create work that makes you stop for the visual, but stay for the story.
